La Crosse
Technology WS-1025
Window Thermometer with Min/Max
Memory
|
|
The
La Crosse Technology WS-1025 Window Thermometer
is a really cool new digital outdoor thermometer. It mounts on the outer surface
of a window. Through the window from indoors, you can view the current
outdoor temperature
in big, bold digits,
and you can simultaneously view minimum and maximum outdoor temperatures recorded
in memory. The digits seem to float in the WS-1025's gray-green tinted
plastic LCD panel. On this particular thermometer, temperatures are
displayed in °F
only. You'll appreciate how easy the WS-1025 is to set up and use.

Featuring simple, contemporary styling, the WS-1025
window thermometer displays the current outdoor temperature in
big, bold digits over 1 inch tall. Above and below the current
temperature are displayed the maximum and minimum recorded outdoor
temperatures in digits about 1/2 inch tall. This weather-resistant
thermometer has a wide measuring range of -13°F
to +158°F.

Here
are some things you'll want to know about the WS-1025:
First of all, you need to select a location for mounting
in an area that's both easy to view and out of direct
sunlight. Mounting the WS-1025 in direct sunlight causes
artificially high temperature readings. The main body of
the WS-1025 (the portion containing the circuitry and
display) snaps onto a bracket, or holder, that adheres to
window glass by means of two adhesive patches. Thus, the
window area on which you mount the WS-1025 must be
absolutely clean and dry when you install it. Also, before
you use the WS-1025, you need to remove the protective film
from both sides of the transparent display area. You'll
appreciate the fact that the thermometer main body with
display can be easily pulled off of its mounting bracket
for window cleaning. As
mentioned above, setting up the WS-1025 is a breeze. You
first open the battery compartment with a Phillips
screwdriver and remove the plastic insulating tab from
between the AAA alkaline battery (which is included with
the WS-1025) and the positive terminal. This activates the
temperature display. Then close the battery compartment. Because
the min/max temperature memory of the WS-1025 automatically
resets each day, this thermometer has an integral quartz
clock that must be set so that memory resets occur at the
proper times. This is easy to do. You press the MODE
button to enter the setting mode and use the + button to
advance the flashing hour digits to the correct local
time. You press MODE again and use the + button to advance
the minutes digits to the correct local time. (By the way,
AM or PM is conveniently displayed to the left of the
time.) You then press the MODE button again to exit the
setting mode. (The WS-1025 does not have an timeout feature
and will not exit the setting mode automatically.)
The maximum temperature now automatically resets at 8:00
A.M., and the minimum temperature now automatically resets
at 8:00 P.M.
The
WS-1025 is cleanly and simply styled. As stated above, the
display area of the main body of the thermometer is
transparent plastic with a gray-green tint. It extends
down from a silver-colored compartment that contains the
WS-1025's circuitry and battery. The bracket that
holds the main body is also silver in color. With its small size
(just over 4 inches tall), handsome styling, min/max
memory, and big display, the
WS-1025 is a cool-looking and reasonably priced
alternative to the more common analog thermometers that
mount outside of a window.
