Taylor 681M Jumbo Outdoor Dial Thermometer (18-Inch Diameter)

The Taylor 681M Jumbo Outdoor Dial Thermometer (sometimes called the Taylor 681M Patio Thermometer) is a large analog dial-type thermometer that's suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. On this instrument, the 18-inch thermometer dial diameter is the same as the unit's overall diameter. The styling of the Taylor 681M isn't fancy, but with its jumbo dial and bold 2 inch numbers for degrees Fahrenheit, this thermometer is definitely readable, and from a considerable distance

The Taylor 681M Jumbo Dial Thermometer has a brushed silver-tone metal case and a convex acrylic lens that resists yellowing. The case is rustproof, and Taylor calls the lens "unbreakable." We're betting that a properly wielded baseball bat or crowbar might prove the latter claim slightly exaggerated, but we do think that the lens will prove to be both tough and durable, even under harsh conditions. The dial is white with fade-resistant black temperature numbers and graphic markers. The big, bold thermometer dial pointer is red.

The Taylor 681M jumbo patio thermometer has both Fahrenheit and Celsius scales. The Fahrenheit scale ranges from -60°F to +120°F, and the Celsius scale ranges from -50°C to +50°C. The Fahrenheit scale has numbers at 20° intervals and graphic markers at 2° intervals. The Celsius scale has numbers at 10° intervals and graphic markers at 1° intervals. The numbers on the Celsius scale are about 7/16 inch tall.

For mounting, the Taylor 681M requires two nails or screws, which are not included and must be obtained separately. The thermometer is easy to mount, and clear instructions for doing this are provided in the instructions.

The Taylor 681M Jumbo Dial Thermometer is designed for easy reading in large rooms and workspaces. It can also be used outdoors as, for example, a poolside, patio, porch, or garden thermometer. Even though the Taylor 681M is weather resistant, for correct temperature readings it should be mounted where it is sheltered from direct or reflected sunlight and other heat sources. If this is done, the thermometer should be accurate to +/-2°F. Taylor has informed us that the 681M is water resistant, so normal precipitation shouldn't affect it.
