Five-Star Commercial Meat Thermometer

The Taylor 5990 Meat Thermometer is part of Taylor's Five-Star Commercial line of kitchen products, which are designed for accuracy, readability, and reliability. These products feature heavy duty construction, large dials and displays, bold graphics, and deluxe features. The 5990 ensures that the meat or poultry that you're cooking has reached the proper temperature or doneness level. This precision analog instrument features tough, corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction and a measuring range of 110°F to 216°F. The case portion containing the dial and mechanism is 2-7/8 inches in diameter. Overall length is 5 inches, and the stem length is 4-3/8 inches.

The Taylor 5990 Meat Thermometer features a clearly marked and easy-to-read dial. On it are indicated, boldly and in distinctive colors, four USDA recommended minimum internal temperatures for a variety of meats at specific doneness levels. These are beef rare (145°F), ground beef/beef medium/fresh ham (160°F), beef well/pork (170°F), and poultry (180°F). A blue temperature minder that slides around the dial edge can be placed at any desired target temperature. When the red dial pointer reaches that temperature, remove the meat from the oven. Additional USDA recommended internal temperatures for more kinds of food are listed in a table on the back of the 5990's package.

One thing you'll find on the Taylor 5990's dial that doesn't appear on ordinary meat thermometers is a TEST point at 212°F, the boiling point of fresh water at sea level. This represents an easy means of ensuring that your thermometer remains accurate. Please be aware that the boiling point decreases as altitude increases, so if you live well above sea level, the temperature shown when the 5990's stem is placed in boiling water will be lower than 212°F.
