The Taylor 5830 Mechanical Long Ring Kitchen / Cooking Timer is part of Taylor's Five-Star Commercial line of kitchen products, which are designed for accuracy, readability, and reliability. These products feature heavy duty construction, large dials and displays, bold graphics, and deluxe features. The 5830 times up to 60 minutes and sounds with an extra-long 9-second ring when time expires. This timer has a stainless steel body, a soft-touch, easy-grip rubber turn knob, and a non-skid base.

The Taylor 5830 Mechanical Long Ring Timer is a stainless steel analog timer similar to the ones your parents or grandparents probably used. Unlike some mechanical timers that are oriented vertically, this particular model rests horizontally, with a dial and turn knob that are angled toward you. When the 5830 timer sounds, it does so with a real bell, not an electronic beep like a digital timer. And since the 5830 is totally mechanical, you never have to replace a battery.

Naturally, today's digital timers have their place, but we don't think that they render mechanical timers like the 5830 obsolete--and, obviously, neither does Taylor. I like to have a mechanical timer available in case the battery suddenly expires in my digital timer and I don't have a replacement battery available. The mechanical timer also comes in handy when I need to time two different things at once. With my digital timer and mechanical timer both in use, I know immediately from the sound which timer has gone off.
