Taylor 3803 Commercial Healthy Weigh
Nutritional Scale (6.6lb/3kg
capacity) |
|
|
The Taylor 3803 Healthy WeighTM
Nutritional Scale is part of Taylor's
Five-Star Commercial line of kitchen products, which are designed
for accuracy, readability, and reliability. This scale can help
you maintain a healthy lifestyle by providing the nutritional contents
of over 500 common food items. The 3803's Diet Memory function helps you
keep track of your nutritional intake electronically and effortlessly. A
Target Monitoring function lets you set nutritional limits and warns you
when these limits are exceeded. Naturally, you can also use the Taylor
3803 digital nutrition scale as a regular kitchen scale for weighing
food ingredients. The digits in the scale's four-digit weight display are
about 3/8 inch tall, with ounce fractions (in 1/8 ounce increments)
about half that size. The characters in the two-line text display are
just under 1/4 inch tall. Maximum capacity of this scale is 6.6 pounds
or 3 kilograms.

The Taylor 3803 Healthy Weigh
Nutrition Scale is white with gray control pushbuttons. The LCD
panel has a grayish-green background. On the bottom of the scale
are four non-skid feet and a kg/lb switch for selecting the weight
unit. The scale's smooth plastic housing and weighing platform are
easy to clean. The 3803 scale uses strain gauge technology, which
provides long-term durability and accuracy when the scale is used
as intended.

General Weighing
Operation To
use the 3803 as a regular kitchen scale, you first set the
kg/lb switch on the bottom of the unit to the desired
weight unit. Then you place the scale on a hard, level surface
and press ON/OFF toturn the scale on. When the
display changes from "PLEASE WAIT" to "0.0 lb oz" or to "0
g", you're ready to weigh. When you place the item to be weighed at the
center of the platform, the weight appears in the LCD
panel. If you add weight, the displayed weight will
increase. When you remove the weight, the display returns
to zero. (If it doesn't, press TARE.) If you are finished
weighing (or using any of the scale's other functions), press
ON/OFF after
removing the weight to turn the scale off manually, or
simply wait about 2 minutes and the scale will turn itself off
automatically. As
often as not, you'll probably want to weigh ingredients in
a bowl or other container rather than on the platform. In this case, you'll need to
tare, or offset, the weight of the bowl so only the weight of
what's in the bowl is displayed. This is really easy. Just
place the bowl on the scale when the scale is off. Then
turn the scale on. The display shows PLEASE WAIT and then
0.0 or 0, which indicates that the weight of the container has been
zeroed out. Add the ingredient to be weighed, and its
weight alone will appear. By
the way, when weights have been tared out, removing the
items from the scale results in a negative number in the
display. To reset the scale to 0.0 or 0 for a new measurement,
simply press TARE or turn the scale off and back on Add
'n' Weigh Function You
may wish to weigh multiple ingredients in the same
container. With its Add 'n' Weigh function, the Taylor
3803 can tare the weight on the platform so each
ingredient can be measured individually. If, for example, a recipe calls for 1/2 pound of one
ingredient and 1/4 pound of a second, tare out the
container first as described above. Then weigh the first
ingredient so that you have the correct amount. Press
TARE, and the display will reset to 0.0 or 0. Then
add and weigh the second ingredient so that you have the
correct amount. If there are more than two ingredients,
repeat until all are weighed. That's all there is to it.
After removing the container from the scale, either press
TARE or turn the scale off and back on to change the
negative number to zero. Diet
Computation Function The
Taylor 3803 calculates dietary values of over 500 foods
included in the scale's software program and displays them
in grams or milligrams based on the kind and weight of the
food on the scale. You press the Diet key (the one with a
root vegetable symbol on it) to enter the Diet Computing
mode. You then select the first letter in the name of the
food you'll be weighing. Next, you scroll through and
select the food name and place the food on the scale. One
of eight nutritional values of the food is displayed along
with how many grams of it are in the food. These
nutritional values are Fat, Fiber, Cholesterol, Sodium,
Calories, Carbohydrates, Protein, and Glucose. You press
UNIT repeatedly to scroll through these nutrition types.
By the way, you can use the Tare and Diet Computation
features together if you wish. The 3803's Instruction
Manual tells you how.
Diet Memory The
Taylor 3803's Diet Memory can add together and save the
nutritional values of the foods you weigh. This lets you
view the total nutritional value of a particular recipe or
meal. To use the Diet Memory, you enter the Diet Computing
mode as described above to get its weight and nutrition
results. Pressing M+ stores these results in memory. You
then remove the food from the scale and place the second
food on it. Pressing the Diet button restarts the process
for the second food, and when its nutritional values
appear, pressing M+ stores its results in memory. You
repeat this for all the foods in your recipe or meal and
press MR to bring up the Memory Total display. Pressing
UNIT repeatedly scrolls through the different total
values. To return
to the individual food display and add more foods to the
Diet Memory, you press MR again. To clear the memory, you
press M+ and MR at the same time. A flashing M-in-a-circle
icon tells you the Diet Memory is full and needs to be
cleared. Target
Monitoring Function The
3803 scale's Target Monitoring function lets you program a
limit for any of the nutritional values listed above, such as
Calories or Carbohydrates. Alarms sound when the foods weighed
approach the limit and when they equal or exceed it. To
use Target Monitoring, you press the Target button (the
one with the target symbol on it) to enter the Target
Setting mode. You then see "ALARM ENABLED" or
"ALARM DISABLED", depending upon the alarm
status. (This is when you can change the status of an
existing alarm.) After a few seconds, "TARGET
LEVEL" appears in the display. You press UNIT to
select the nutritional value you wish to limit. Next, you
enter the (digital) Target Level, which will be in grams
or milligrams. Press UNIT again to select another value if
desired, and then enter its Target Level. When all desired
Target Levels are set, you press the Target button to
enable the alarm. With
the alarm enabled, when you place a food on the scale and
select its food name, a warning (two quadruple beeps)
sounds if the food reaches 90% of its Target Level. A
final triple-beep sounds if the Target Level is equaled or
exceeded. Programmed Target Levels remain in memory until
they are reset to zero or the scale's battery is removed. Additional
Information If
"EEEE" appears in the display, the scale is
overloaded. Remove the weight immediately to prevent
permanent damage to the scale. Also, be absolutely sure to
read the Precautions section of the 3803 Instruction Manual
completely before using the scale. This can extend the
life of the scale and prevent operational problems down
the line. In the
3803 Instruction Manual is a handy reference
list of more than 500 food descriptions and the
corresponding names that are displayed on the scale's LCD
panel. For
powering, the Taylor 3803 scale requires one 9-volt
alkaline "radio" battery, which is not included and
must be obtained separately. If a low-battery icon appears in the display or if the readings
grow dim or irregular, it's time to replace the battery.
Accurate and reliable,
the 3803 Five-Star Commercial Healthy Weigh Nutritional Scale is covered by a
Taylor 1-year limited warranty.
