Taylor 3801 Classic
Digital Kitchen / Food Scale (11lb/5kg
capacity) |
|
|
The Taylor 3801 Digital Kitchen / Food Scale is a
good-looking and easy-to-use kitchen accessory that displays weight in
your choice of pounds and ounces (with tenths) or kilograms and grams.
It features a large weighing platform that's slightly recessed in the
center area. The Taylor Classic 3801 has a convenient add and weigh tare
feature, and you can use the scale with or without a bowl (not
included). The digits in the scale's four-digit display are bold and 1/2 inch tall. Maximum capacity of this scale is
11 pounds or 5 kilograms.

The Taylor 3800 Classic Digital
Kitchen Scale is silver in color with a gray plastic weighing platform and
gray rubberized control pushbuttons. On the bottom of the scale
are four non-skid feet. Two long-life lithium
button cell batteries are
included and preinstalled.

As mentioned above, the
Taylor 3801 Classic Kitchen Scale is easy to use. You
place it on a hard, level surface and press ON/TARE to turn
it on. When the display changes from 8888 to 0.0 (for
ounces) or 0 (for grams), the
scale is ready to use. The factory default weight unit is
pounds and ounces. To switch to kilograms and grams, press and release the
LB/KG button. Then place the item to be weighed at the
center of the platform. The weight is displayed in the LCD
panel. If you add weight, the displayed weight will
increase. When you remove the weight, the display returns
to zero. If you are finished weighing, press OFF after
removing the weight to turn the scale off manually, or
simply wait 30 seconds and the scale will turn itself off
automatically. The scale also turns off automatically if
there is no change in weight after 2 minutes. As
often as not, you'll probably want to weigh ingredients in
a bowl or other container rather than on the platform. In this case, you'll need to
tare, or offset, the weight of the bowl so only the weight of
what's in the bowl is displayed. This is really easy. Just
place the bowl on the scale when the scale is off. Then
turn the scale on. The display reads 8888 and then 0.0 or
0,
which indicates that the weight of the container has been
zeroed out. Add the ingredient to be weighed, and its
weight alone will appear. The
weight of additional ingredients can be tared out as well.
If, for example, a recipe calls for 1/2 pound of one
ingredient and 1/4 pound of a second, tare out the
container first as described above. Then weigh the first
ingredient so that you have the correct amount. Press
ON/TARE, and the display will reset to 0.0 or 0. Then
add and weigh the second ingredient so that you have the
correct amount. That's all there is to it. By
the way, when weights have been tared out, removing the
items from the scale results in a negative number or
"- - - -" in the
display. To reset the scale to 0.0 or 0 for a new measurement,
simply turn the scale off and back on again. If
"Err" appears in the display, the scale is
overloaded. Remove the weight immediately to prevent
permanent damage to the scale. Also, be absolutely sure to
read the Precautions section of the Instruction Manual
completely before using the scale. This can extend the
life of the scale and prevent operational problems down
the line. For
powering, the Taylor 3801 scale requires two CR2032
lithium batteries, which are included and preinstalled.
Just remove the red plastic insulating strip, and the
scale is ready to power up and use. If
"LO" appears in the display or if the readings
grow dim or irregular, it's time to replace the batteries.
Accurate and reliable,
the 3801 Classic Digital Kitchen Scale is covered by a
Taylor 1-year limited warranty.
