Taylor 3105C Windscope Wind Speed and Direction Indicator Anemometer

Once thought to never again come up for sale, we have acquired several Taylor Instrument Windscope units. Thought by some to be the finest wind speed/anemometer unit ever manufactured, the Taylor 3105C Windscope has been used in government and scientific study's for decades. The Windscope is an instrument which determines both wind direction and velocity, by means of a vane and revolving cups mounted in suitable position and which transmits these values to an indicating unit which may be placed in any convenient indoor location.

The Windscope indicator main unit has a gorgeous solid cherry wood housing. Both wind direction and velocity are shown by means of its indicator pointer, which has precious-metal contacts and is protected by a thick crystal lens. The anemometer measures wind speed and direction. It is of heavy-duty long lasting metal construction, while the wind vane and revolving cups are extremely durable plastic.

The Taylor Windscope 3105C is a self-contained unit that is powered by a single D size battery and no outside source of power is required. There is no drain on the battery except when reading the wind direction, which greatly lengthens battery life. The Windscope measures both direction and velocity on a single dial and has two wind velocity scales to provide greater accuracy and ease of reading, particularly in the 0-30 mph range. Mean wind velocities in most parts of the country are within this range. The direction indicator on the dial has superb quality precious-metal contacts to ensure long life.

The wind speed transmitter includes 60 feet of wire which connect to terminals on the back of the indicating unit using 5 lead-in wires. The outdoor transmitter is intended to be mounted using 1/4" pipe. The Windscope uses a single a single dial to display wind direction, wind speed within the 0-30 mph (0-50 kph) range, and wind speed within the 0-120 mph (0-190 kph) range.

These different measuring ranges can be chosen by means of a knob on the lower right side of the display. There are three indicating dots representing the different ranges, which are black, red, and blue and correspond to the same colored print on the display as well as a "check" setting that can be selected when the knob has been turned completely to the right. The wind speed portion of the dial is shown in blue, wind speed within the 0-30 mph range is shown in red, and wind speed within the 0-120 mph range is shown in black.

The Windscope indicating unit requires calibration before use. This is done by selecting the "check" setting using the right knob, and then adjusting the left "adjust" knob accordingly until the indicator pointer reads "S" on the right hand side of the display.

All elements used in the Windscope have been factory tested, but there is always a possibility that damage may occur in shipment. It is advised that a preliminary test be made as soon as the instrument is unpacked and prior to permanent installation.
