Seiko SNA473 Alarm Chronograph Watch Men's Analog Wristwatch with Date, Stopwatch, Alarm, Second-Zone Time, Tachymeter Dial, 100M Water Resistance, Stainless Steel Case and Band While the styling of some analog chronographs and other multi-dial watches these days ranges from radical to downright bizarre, the Seiko SNA473 Alarm Chronograph Watch would be considered fairly conservative if it weren't for some contrasting color accents that add a sporty touch. The case and band are mostly silver-tone, and the dial is black. We think that the basic design is very handsome and that the vivid accents will definitely get this watch noticed. Please click for a larger picture The stainless steel case and band of the SNA473 alarm chronograph both have polished and brushed portions for contrast. We especially like how the case and band join one another smoothly in wide, curving junctions. Both sides of the case, including the crown and stopwatch buttons, are plated with high-gloss black titanium carbo-nitride (TiCN). The indentations on either side of the polished center area of the junction add visual interest, and on this watch, these are high-gloss black TiCN as well. While the crown and stopwatch buttons on many analog chronographs are large and protrude noticeably, those on the SNA473 are different. The crown is thin and not knurled, and it barely protrudes from the case. The upper and lower stopwatch buttons smoothly meet the case at their top and bottom ends, respectively. The convex crystal that protects the dial is scratch resistant Hardlex mineral glass. We should mention that the link-type band has a three-fold pushbutton safety clasp for security. Like the case front and the band, the case back is stainless steel. On the face of the SNA473, hour and minute hands and a seconds subdial indicate the time. The stopwatch has a 1/5 second hand on the main dial and a 60-minute hand on a second subdial. A third subdial has hour and minute hands that are used for setting the alarm time. If desired, you can use the alarm subdial as a second-zone time display. The eight Arabic hour numbers on the face of the watch are polished silver-tone. The hour and minute hands and the seconds subdial hand are polished silver-tone metal, and the hour and minute hands have luminous white centers for night viewing. The 1/5 second chronograph hand is yellow with white a luminous center, and the minutes subdial and alarm subdial hands are also yellow. The white dots at all 12 hour positions on the angled outer edge of the dial are luminous. Seiko's term for these is LumiBrite® hands and markers (and the watchmaker term for the angled dial edge is the chapter ring). The date is shown in black on white in a window at the 3 o'clock position. The SNA473 is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet) as long as the crown is not pulled out and the chronograph buttons are not pressed under water. The stopwatch in the SNA473 counts up time to 60 minutes in 1/5 second increments and runs for 12 hours if not reset earlier. This stopwatch can measure elapsed time, split times, and first- and second-place finishes. The minutes subdial is the one at 12 o'clock. Like many sport analog chronographs, the SNA473 has a tachymeter dial on its bezel that shows the average speed of a car or other conveyance in miles or kilometers per hour when you use the chronograph to time it over 1 mile or 1 kilometer. As you may know, the tachymeter can be used only when the elapsed time over the mile or kilometer is 1 minute or less. The alarm in the SNA473 is a single alarm that can be set in 1-minute increments up to 12 hours ahead of the current time. Alarm accuracy is +/- 1 minute. As mentioned above, the alarm subdial (the one at 6 o'clock) can be used to indicate the time in a second time zone. The SNA473 has a 3-position crown that's used in conjunction with the chronograph buttons for adjusting the time, date, stopwatch hands, and alarm time. A three-position crown lets you initially set the time and date much more quickly than would be the case if the two settings were not independent, and it's also handy when you need to set the date to 1 at the end of months with fewer than 31 days. The SNA473 Alarm Chronograph comes with a bilingual (English and Spanish) user manual that provides instructions for the timekeeping, alarm, and chronograph (stopwatch) functions and for battery replacement. A second manual contains very basic watch instructions, care and maintenance instructions, and complete information on the 3-year limited warranty. You also get a warranty registration card that, when sent in, makes you a member of the Seiko Elite Club, which provides you with a variety of additional benefits. This watch uses a Seiko SR927W battery with expected life of 3 years under the conditions specified in the manual. When the battery gets low, the subdial second hand moves at 2-second intervals instead of 1-second to let you know that replacement is needed. Definitely man-size but not oversize, the Seiko SNA471 is about 40 mm in diameter (not including the crown) by 11 mm thick. This is a great-looking watch that you can wear confidently on almost any occasion and that, in addition to time and date, offers the added functionality of an alarm, a stopwatch, and a tachymeter dial.  Features and Functions Quartz movement with frequency of 32,768 Hz and accuracy of ±15 seconds per month at normal temperatures (41°F to 95°F or 5°C to 35°C). Chronograph can measure split times and first- and second-place finishes in addition to elapsed time Alarm subdial has hour and minute hands for setting alarm time and, during normal operation, can display current time or second-zone time. Single alarm can be set up to 12 hours ahead of current time and sounds for 20 seconds unless a chronograph button is pressed first. Three-position crown for easy setting and date adjustments.
