The Westclox 47637 Crown Line Deluxe 1965 Baby Ben Alarm Clock is an authentic reproduction of the original style 8 Baby Ben design by Ellworth Danz for Westclox. The design dates from the 1964 Baby Ben Classic clocks, and the all-metal Crown Line Deluxe Baby Ben clocks were introduced in 1965. Style 8 clocks were initially manufactured from 1964 through 1981. Every detail of this clock from its gold-tone plated all-metal case and die-cast base to the raised numbers and markers on the dial is faithfully reproduced to maintain the Baby Ben tradition of unique styling and quality. Today's Crown Line Deluxe Baby Ben clock features a modern quartz movement, which eliminates the ticking sound of the original and makes the clock virtually silent. Nearly identical physically to the alarm clocks many people wound and set every night before going to sleep, the Crown Line Deluxe Baby Ben clock brings to mind times that were a-changin', not just in America but globally. This clock fits perfectly on a nightstand, shelf, desk, or even on the floor, next to your bed.

The 47637 Crown Line Deluxe Baby Ben clock remains true to its handsome original design with a polished, gold-tone plated metal case. The metal dial is a lighter gold color that goes nicely with the case. The hour numbers and markers on the dial are raised, just as on the original. Between them are black minute markers. The two hands and the alarm pointer are gold-tone metal, and the hands have luminescent centers for night viewing. There are also small round luminescent markers at all 12 hour positions near the outer edge of the dial. The lens is shatterproof plastic. Although this clock is compact at 3-1/2 inches wide by 3-3/8 inches high, its numbers and markers are relatively large at 5/16 inch tall. Designed for placement on a nightstand, table, or desktop, this alarm clock works in home or office and also where ac power is not available.

With only three controls on the back of its case, the 1965 Crown Line Deluxe Baby Ben clock is really easy to set and use. You set clock time and alarm time by means of separate rotating knobs. Just turn each one in the direction of the arrow. The movement in the 47637 is a conventional analog quartz movement. Thus, this clock is not atomic and does not adjust automatically for Daylight Saving Time, but it is extremely accurate.
To turn the alarm on, you press and release the spring-loaded locking alarm button on the back of the clock up so that the button is in the ON (out) position. When the alarm time is reached, you hear a pleasant beeping sound. To turn off the beeping, press and release the alarm button so that it locks in the OFF (in) position. The beeping lasts for about 40 minutes if you don't turn it off first. This may be a good thing for sound sleepers and for folks who'd prefer to stay in bed but need to get up. As long as the alarm switch is set to ON (out), the alarm will sound again in 12 hours at the set time.
For powering, the 47637 Crown Line Deluxe Baby Ben clock uses one AA (1.5V) battery, which is not included. We recommend an alkaline battery because alkaline cells are far less prone to leakage than the carbon-zinc type, and their leakage is far less corrosive. Expected battery life is about 1 year. To install the battery, you must remove the case back by unscrewing two knurled retaining screws that secure it. This is easily done by hand.
This Baby Ben clock is intended for placement on a flat surface such as a nightstand, dresser, shelf, or on the floor next to the bed or sofa. It cannot be wall-mounted.
