10607 Westclox Black Big Ben Classic Alarm Clock
|
|
|
The 10607 Westclox Black Big Ben Classic Alarm Clock
in black is an authentic reproduction of
the original style 8 Big Ben design by Ellworth Danz for Westclox. The
clock was initially manufactured from 1964 through 1981. This clock is super-simple to use and requires no batteries or house
current. Separate keys
wind the timekeeping and alarm mechanisms, and the alarm is a real bell. The spring-driven
clock movement makes the classic ticking sound. Nearly identical to the
alarm clock many people set and wound every night before going to sleep,
the Big Ben Classic brings to mind an era of profound social and
cultural change in America and worldwide. This clock fits perfectly on
a nightstand, dresser, table, shelf, or even on the floor next to your bed.

The 10607 Big Ben Classic remains true
to its handsome original 1964 design with a black molded case and a chrome metal base and bezel. The
black dial with white numbers and hands is protected by a
shatterproof acrylic lens. The hands have luminous centers
that glow in the dark
for easy night viewing. The
dial on this clock is a full 4
inches in diameter, and the hour numbers are 3/8-inch tall for
easy reading. Designed to rest on a nightstand, dresser, table,
shelf, or on the floor next to your bed, the Big Ben 10607 alarm
clock works
in the home or wherever ac or battery powering is not readily
available. |

The Big Ben 10607 Classic clock is easy to set and use because everything is done the old-fashioned way. You set the
current time and alarm time by means of separate rotating knobs on the back of the clock.
Then just turn the separate wind keys for the clock and the alarm clockwise until you feel
resistance. Expected cycle time of a fully wound clock is 24
hours with accuracy of +/- 5 minutes, and the clock will actually
continue to tell time for about another 12 hours after that with
slightly less accuracy. This time accuracy is typical of
key-wound clocks. To turn the alarm on, you pull the
alarm knob out. When the alarm time is reached, an old-fashioned bell
sounds for about 12 seconds, unless the alarm knob is pushed in to silence the alarm. This bell is
quite loud, so heavy
sleepers will find it challenging to remain asleep. As long as the alarm knob is pulled out, the
alarm will sound again in 12 hours at the set time. The
clock movement is regulated at the factory, but due to shipping, some
movements may require minor adjustment by the user. A regulator lever
on the back of the clock can be adjusted to increase or decrease
the speed of the clock. Only slight movement of the lever is necessary
to make an adjustment. The
10607 Big Ben clock does make a soft ticking sound. Unless your ears are unusually sensitive, the ticking should be unobtrusive to
almost unnoticeable, depending on where you locate the clock. The Big Ben
Classic is intended for placement on a flat surface such as a nightstand, dresser,
or shelf, or on the floor next to your bed or couch. It cannot be wall-mounted.
With its luminous numbers and hands and easy setup and operation, the
Big Ben 10607 Classic is an alarm clock that almost anyone can use and appreciate. Because it's
key-wound, you can use the 10607 anywhere. And with a modest price tag, it's an excellent value. Naturally, the
Big Ben Classic alarm clock makes a practical, affordable, and nostalgic gift
item, especially for folks who remember the '60s and '70s.
