ET-87 Redi-Chek
Roast
Alert Digital Meat Thermometer
|
|
The Maverick ET-87 Redi-Chek Roast Alert Digital Meat Thermometer
lets you cook accurately and safely every time. The ET-87 has three distinct alerting
signals that tell you when food is almost done, done, and then overdone.
This instrument comes with a stainless steel probe on a detachable, heat-resistant
wire for inserting into the meat or poultry. You can select
factory-programmed doneness settings for meats and poultry, and you can
also create your own programs with custom temperature settings. There’s no need to worry about
undercooked or overcooked foods
again.

The ET-87 Roast
Alert has
some great new features and a new slim folding design. The heat-resistant
wire attached
to the probe is 45 inches in length. The ET-87 main unit
displays its information on a two-line LCD panel. Simply select the desired MEAT
type and TASTE (doneness) setting. If you don’t remove the meat or poultry from the heat when it is done, the countdown timer
begins to count up so you know how long the food has been
overcooking.

What could be easier? Set
the Redi-Chek ET-87's POWER switch to ON and the switch in the battery
compartment for a temperature
display in your choice of °F or °C. Insert the thermometer's probe into the meat or poultry. Push a button to select the type of meat
or poultry you're cooking. Fifteen different meat and poultry choices
are available. Push another button to select the desired TASTE setting: RARE, MEDIUM RARE, MEDIUM, or WELL. Then
set the ALERT switch to ON. For example, if you are cooking veal and desire
medium (160°F) doneness, here's what happens after you place the meat in a preheated
oven:
-
When COOK TEMP reaches 140°F, the RARE icon
flashes.
-
When COOK TEMP reaches 145°F (Medium
Rare range), the Pre-Alert alarm beeps every five seconds, the PRE-ALERT icon
flashes, the RARE icon stops flashing, and the MED. RARE icon flashes.
-
When COOK TEMP reaches 160°F (start of
Medium range), the Alert alarm will sound 4 short beeps
consecutively, the ALERT icon
flashes, the MED. RARE icon stops flashing, and the MED. icon flashes.
-
If the meat is not removed from the heat, then as the COOK TEMP reaches 170°F (start of
Well range), the Overcook alarm beeps (continuous beep), OVERCOOKED
and ALERT icons flash, the MED. icon stops flashing, and the WELL icon flashes.
As one of its 15 selectable meat and
poultry types, the ET-87 has a PGM (program) setting that lets you set
your own temperatures for the doneness values. Also, you can change the
factory-set, USDA-recommended doneness value temperatures for any of the
selectable meat types. For example, let's say you're cooking veal and
you'd like a slightly higher or lower temperature for the Medium
doneness value than the preset 160°F. You select VEAL by pressing the
MEAT/ALERT+ button and MED by pressing the TASTE/ALERT- button. You then
press and hold the MEAT/ALERT+ button until it displays VEAL 160°F. You
then press and hold the MEMORY button until the temperature starts to
blink, then you use the MEAT/ALERT+ and TASTE/ALERT- buttons
to change the temperature in 1° increments and store the new
temperature in memory until you want to change it again.
The easy-to-read two-line LCD panel is
1-1/2 inch
high by 1-3/4 inches wide. The top line of the display shows Bar Graph,
which indicates the level of doneness of your food. Below this the
levels of doneness are shown as well as a Doneness Pointer, which points
to the level of doneness you have selected. Also displayed on the LCD
are meat type, pre-alert indicator, pre-programmed temperature, and the
current temperature of the meat.
The cooking thermometer requires one AAA (1.5V) battery (included) and has a POWER ON/OFF
button to maximize battery life. Please be aware that this thermometer's probe is designed for use in conventional
ovens up to 410°F
(temperatures above that will deteriorate the wire). Do not use the base
unit inside an oven, and never use the ET-87 in a microwave oven. The
AAA battery included with the ET-87 is a carbon-zinc heavy duty battery,
but when replacement becomes necessary, we recommend an alkaline
battery. The ET-87 is covered by a
manufacturer's 90-day limited warranty.
Please Note: The
ET-87 should never be submerged or soaked in
water and should be kept away from direct heat and precipitation. To prevent cross-contamination, it's a good idea to wash the stainless steel probe sensor
after each insertion, but do not immerse the probe in water. Always use heat-resistant gloves when handling the probe sensor or wire during or just after cooking. Do not touch
the probe or wire with bare hands.
