Chaney
Instrument 75071
Set & Forget
Extra Large Jumbo LCD Clock
|
|
Here's the jumbo
display digital clock you've been waiting for! The Set
& Forget 75071 Extra Large Jumbo LCD Clock
by Chaney Instrument Co. automatically displays the correct time from the moment you
insert batteries and select your time zone. It continues to display the correct time even after
battery changes. It also springs ahead and falls back
automatically when the Daylight Saving Time (DST) change occurs twice
a year. No adjustment by the user or detection of an external
signal by the clock is ever needed for DST changes. Best of all,
the hour and minute digits on this clock are 4 inches tall and extra
bold, and the seconds digits are just under 3 inches tall and quite bold
as well. (Yes!!! Finally!! Big seconds digits!) If you need a
not-too-large, no-frills digital clock that can be viewed from across a
large room or workspace, or if you or someone you know is visually
impaired, the Set & Forget 75071 is one clock you should definitely consider.

The
75071 Set & Forget Oversized LCD Clock has a molded case in
a semi-metallic silver color. The clock is 13-1/2 inches wide by
6 inches high, and the jumbo display is 11 inches wide by 4
inches high. Besides being easy to read from a distance,
this clock is very cleanly and simply styled. The four control
pushbuttons, a RESET button, and a DST switch are on the back of
the clock, and the only decoration on the front is the gray Set
& Forget logo below the display.

Talk about
super-easy setup! Simply insert four AA alkaline batteries.
The clock takes it from there. An integral microchip that is
pre-programmed with a calendar sets the clock instantly to the
default Eastern zone time. All you need to do after inserting
batteries is select your time zone (choices are Atlantic,
Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, and Hawaii-Aleutian)
and set a switch for Old DST (year 2006) or New DST (year 2007
and later). If you live in a location that does not observe
DST, you can set the DST switch to OFF to disable the time
changes. Down the line, the microchip tells the clock the exact days
and times on which to change to DST in the
spring and back to standard time in the fall and which years are
leap years. No signals or
antennas are required!' The
Set & Forget 75071 displays the time in 12-hour mode with AM
and PM. Along with the time, this clock displays the selected
time zone and, if DST is in effect, displays "Daylight
ST" as well.
As mentioned above, the Set
& Forget 75071 is powered by four AA alkaline batteries.
These are not included and must be obtained separately. Although
their expected life is not specified, we expect it to be about
one year. You also need to know that the included and
preinstalled CR2032 button cell battery that powers the time and
calendar microchip needs occasional replacement. With the four
AA batteries installed, the CR2032 battery should
be replaced every three years. If AA batteries are not installed
(for example, if the clock is stored), replace the
CR2032 battery every 2 years. Here's the important thing: Never
remove all of the batteries at the same time because the
internal calendar memory (Set & Forget functions) will no
longer function properly. When replacing the CR2032 battery,
make sure that the AA batteries are installed and that the time
display is operational.
If you wish to set the time
forward or back from the actual time, manual time set capability
lets you do so. This feature also lets you reset the clock
(including the memory) if all batteries are accidentally removed
or if you forget to change the CR2032 battery and it wears out.
If the clock ever performs abnormally, you can use a small
object such as a paper clip to press the recessed RESET button
on the back of the clock. You then perform the manual time
set procedure to set the clock to the correct time and date.
The movement in this clock is
a highly accurate digital quartz movement (but not
"atomic"). Although accuracy is not specified in the
instructions, movements of this type are typically accurate to
+/-15 to +/-30 seconds per month. Also, this clock has no alarm,
and, as is typical of digital clocks with large displays, its display
is not illuminated.
On the back of the Set
& Forget 75071 Oversized LCD Clock are three keyhole slots
for wall mounting and two fold-out table stands for
free-standing use. For viewing from a distance or for people
with imperfect vision, the jumbo display 75071 may be the
perfect clock.
Note: At
the time of this writing, the U.S. Congress has passed legislation that
will lengthen Daylight Saving Time in 2007 by starting
it earlier and ending it later in the year. This clock can be
optioned to change time on the old dates (2006) or on the new dates
(2007 and later).
