Chaney
Instrument 75032 Gaston
Set & Forget
16-Inch Analog Wall Clock
|
|
The Chaney Instrument 75032 Analog Wall
Clock automatically displays the correct time from the moment you power
it up. It continues to display the correct time even after
power outages. It also springs ahead and falls back
automatically when the Daylight Saving Time change occurs twice
a year. No adjustment by the user or detection of an external
signal by the clock is ever needed for DST changes.

The
Chaney 75032 has a steel case with a
dark bronze finish. The dial is
white with dark brown Arabic hour numbers about 1 inch tall. The
three hands are also dark brown. The flat protective
lens is glass. The hour numbers are in a condensed type face that
gives the clock a look that might be termed retro-modern, even
though the hour and minute hands are the classic teardrop style.
This clock will fit nicely into a variety of interior decors in
home and office alike. We really like the color.

Chaney Instrument
calls the Gaston a 16-inch clock, but its overall diameter is
actually a bit less at 15-1/2 inches. The
diameter of the clock dial is 12 inches.
Talk about
super-easy set-up! Simply install an AA (1.5V) battery as
directed and set the hands of this clock to the correct time.
The clock takes it from there. An integral microchip that is
pre-programmed with a calendar tells the clock the exact days
and times on which to change to Daylight Saving Time in the
spring and back to standard time in the fall. No signals or
antennas are required!
If you stay up late
to see the clock perform the DST switching, here's what happens:
-
In the spring,
the hands of the clock fast-forward an hour to DST in about
8 minutes.
-
In the fall, the
hands of the clock move very quickly forward for about 90
minutes
until they reach the correct standard time.
Since this clock
automatically adjusts for DST, you'll need to manually reset it
twice a year if you live in an area that doesn't recognize DST
(Arizona and parts of Indiana). But for folks in most North
American locations, this clock will eliminate two easily
forgotten time-setting chores per year while looking good on
the wall as it does so.
For powering, the
75032 Gaston Set & Forget clock requires one AA (1.5V) battery, which is not
included. We
recommend an alkaline battery because alkaline cells are far less
prone to leakage than the carbon-zinc type, and their leakage is
far less corrosive. Although battery life is not
specified, we expect it to be about 1 year or more based
on our experience with similar clocks.
Note: At
the time of this writing, the U.S. Congress has passed legislation that
will lengthen Daylight Saving Time in 2007 by starting
it earlier and ending it later in the year. This may cause the automatic DST changes in this clock
(and in others with similar technology and pre-programmed
calendar) to occur on the wrong dates. We cannot be certain as
to how Congress and the clock manufacturers will address this
problem when it occurs. We are in touch with our
manufacturers on this, but no one is sure at this time what the final
outcome will be.
