Chaney
Instrument 75027
18" Analog Wall Clock
|
|
|
The 75027 Set & Forget 18" Analog Wall Clock
by Chaney Instrument Co. automatically displays the correct time from the moment you power
it up. It continues to display the correct time even after
power outages. It also springs ahead and falls back
automatically when the Daylight Saving Time change occurs twice
a year. No adjustment by the user or detection of an external
signal by the clock is ever needed for DST changes. This Set & Forget clock features an
analog thermometer on the lower half of its face above the 6 o'clock
position.

The
Chaney Instrument 75027 has a molded case with a
distressed black finish. The "distressed" rings on the
case are a yellowish tan color to simulate age. The face is
white with black clock and thermometer dials. The Arabic hour numerals
are large at just over 1-1/2
inch tall. The open hour and minute
hands are black, and the thermometer dial pointer is red. The flat protective
lens is glass. If you need a large clock with thermometer for a
home, office, or workspace
with traditional decor, please have a look at the Time &
Temp.

|
The overall diameter of
the Chaney 75027 is 18 inches, and the
diameter of the face is 14 inches. The thermometer dial is about
3-1/2 inches in diameter, not including the numbers, which are
just over 1/4 inch tall. This analog thermometer is numbered
from -40°F
to +120°F
at 20°
intervals, and markers
at 2° intervals range from -42°F
to +122°F.
Even though the Time
& Temp clock has a wide-range thermometer, this clock is not
sealed against the elements. Thus, it is not advertised or
described in its instructions as an indoor/outdoor clock. If
you want to use the Time & Temp clock outdoors during the warm months,
be absolutely sure to mount it in a sheltered location where
direct sunlight and moisture cannot reach it. Mounting the clock
where the sun shines on it even part-time will cause inaccurate
temperature readings. Mounting the clock where significant moisture is present can
cause malfunctions and possible damage.
Talk about
super-easy set-up! Simply install an AA (1.5V) battery as
directed and set the hands of this clock to the correct time.
The clock takes it from there. An integral microchip that is
pre-programmed with a calendar tells the clock the exact days
and times on which to change to Daylight Saving Time in the
spring and back to standard time in the fall. No signals or
antennas are required!
If you stay up late
to see the clock perform the DST switching, here's what happens:
-
In the spring,
the hands of the clock fast-forward an hour to DST in about
8 minutes.
-
In the fall, the
hands of the clock move very quickly forward for about 90
minutes
until they reach the correct standard time.
Since this clock
automatically adjusts for DST, you'll need to manually reset it
twice a year if you live in an area that doesn't recognize DST
(Arizona and parts of Indiana). But for folks in most North
American locations, this clock will eliminate two easily
forgotten time-setting chores per year while looking good on
the wall as it does so.
For powering, the
75027 Time & Temp Set & Forget clock requires one AA (1.5V) battery, which is not
included. We
recommend an alkaline battery because alkaline cells are far less
prone to leakage than the carbon-zinc type, and their leakage is
far less corrosive. Although battery life is not
specified, we expect it to be about 1 year or more based
on our experience with similar clocks.
Note: At
the time of this writing, the U.S. Congress has passed legislation that
will lengthen Daylight Saving Time in 2007 by starting
it earlier and ending it later in the year. We cannot be certain
that this clock is programmed for the new dates because this is
not mentioned on the packaging or in the instructions.
