Chaney Instrument 75025
Electra
Set & Forget 14" Wall Clock
|
|
The Chaney Instrument 75025 Electra Set & Forget 14" Wall Clock
automatically displays the correct time from the moment you power
it up. It continues to display the correct time even after
power outages. It also springs ahead and falls back
automatically when the Daylight Saving Time change occurs twice
a year. No adjustment by the user or detection of an external
signal by the clock is ever needed for DST changes. This Set & Forget clock
is powered by 120Vac 60Hz house current instead of a battery.

The
Electra 75025 Set & Forget analog wall clock has a molded
black case. The dial is
white with bold black Arabic hour numbers about 1-1/8 inch tall. The
hour and minute hands are black, and the second hand (which the
manufacturer indicates is a sweep hand) is red. The convex protective
lens is plastic. This clock is definitely styled for business
and institutional applications.

Chaney Instrument
call the Electra a 14-inch clock, but its overall diameter is
actually a bit less at 13-1/2 inches. The
diameter or the clock face is 11-1/2 inches.
Talk about
super-easy set-up! Simply plug the polarized two-prong plug into
a wall outlet as
directed and set the hands of this clock to the correct time.
The clock takes it from there. An integral microchip that is
pre-programmed with a calendar tells the clock the exact days
and times on which to change to Daylight Saving Time in the
spring and back to standard time in the fall. No signals or
antennas are required!
If you stay up late
to see the clock perform the DST switching, here's what happens:
-
In the spring,
the hands of the clock fast-forward an hour to DST in about
8 minutes.
-
In the fall, the
hands of the clock move very quickly forward for about 90
minutes
until they reach the correct standard time.
Since this clock
automatically adjusts for DST, you'll need to manually reset it
twice a year if you live in an area that doesn't recognize DST
(Arizona and parts of Indiana). But for folks in most North
American locations, this clock will eliminate two easily
forgotten time-setting chores per year while looking good on
the wall as it does so.
The Electra is
actually a clock within a clock. One clock is an internal clock
that maintains time within the movement. It keeps the correct
year, month, day, and time and compares these to an internal DST
calendar so that it knows when, and in what direction, to adjust
for DST. The internal clock is set for the Central time zone so
that DST changes occur at 2:00 a.m. Central time on the days of
change. This internal clock is powered by a 3-volt lithium
battery that's preinstalled in the clock. Set
& Forget ac-powered clocks like the 75025 Electra have a
"hidden" feature that you can use to view the clock's
internal time (month, date, year, and time in order) as
indicated by changing hand positions. The instruction manual
tells you how to activate and interpret the internal time
display feature, but please be aware that using this feature is
strictly optional.
Note: At
the time of this writing, the U.S. Congress has passed legislation that
will lengthen Daylight Saving Time in 2007 by starting
it earlier and ending it later in the year. We cannot be certain
that this clock is programmed for the new dates because this is
not mentioned on the packaging or in the instructions.
