(Indoor/Outdoor Thermo-Hygrometer, Weather
Forecaster,
and Atomic Clock with Calendar, Moon Phase,
and Dual Alarms) |

The Acu-Rite
00787 Wireless Weather Station displays a wealth of
information in its large, backlit, 3-line LCD panel. The top line is
where you'll see an animated weather forecast icon along with a
barometric pressure trend arrow. Displayed to the right of the forecast
icon in vertical order are the time, a moon phase animation, and the
month, date, and weekday. The top line is also where several
clock-related function icons appear when active. The second line of the
LCD panel displays the outdoor temperature and relative humidity from up
to three locations, and the third line displays the indoor temperature
and relative humidity. Trend arrows are displayed adjacent to all
temperature and humidity values. Outdoor temperature
data is transmitted to the 00787 main unit by the included 00911 remote
sensor/transmitter, and the main unit can operate with up to three of
these remotes. The 00911 has its own temperature and humidity display for local viewing,
and you can select °F or °C for the display on both the 00787 and 00911
simply by pushing a button on each unit.
This compact wireless weather station
has a minimum/maximum memory for all temperature and humidity readings,
both indoor and from all remotes in use. Its integral Atomix®
radio controlled ("atomic") clock has dual daily alarms with snooze.
The 00787 main unit is free-standing, while the 00911 remote can be wall-mounted
or free-standing.

The Acu-Rite
00787 Wireless Weather Station is styled in semi-metallic silver
with a dark metallic blue bezel around the LCD panel. The 00787 displays an
animated 12-hour weather forecast, an animated moon phase,
the indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, and the time, date, and weekday.
Trend arrows are displayed for barometric pressure and all
temperature and humidity readings. One 00911 outdoor temperature remote is
included, and the 00787 works with up to three of these
remotes. The 00787 has a min/max memory for indoor
and all outdoor (remote) temperature and humidity values. The
integral atomic clock has
two daily alarms with snooze. This station's backlit 3-line LCD panel is about
2-3/4 inches tall by 2-1/2 inches wide. Temperature and humidity
digits are bold and about 5/8 inch tall (tenths of a degree are
smaller). Hour and minute digits are about 7/16 inch tall
(seconds, month, and date are smaller). Use the 00787 on a shelf, table, or desk in
your home or office.

The 00787 wireless forecast station predicts
the weather 12 hours in advance based on barometric pressure changes. One
of six animated forecast icons is displayed: Sunny, Partly Sunny, Cloudy,
Rainy, Stormy (entire Rainy icon flashing), or Icy (snowy). A barometric pressure trend arrow
is displayed to the left of the forecast icon. Concerning the BAROMETER
designation below the Acu-Rite logo on the front panel, you should be
aware that th 00787 does not display the actual barometric pressure.
Instead, it has an integral barometric pressure sensor that reads the
pressure and determines the forecast.
In addition to an animated weather
forecast, the 00787 has an animated moon phase display that's a little
different from most. The 00787 actually scrolls through eight different
moon phases at a rate of one phase per second. When the current moon
phase is reached, that phase remains displayed for 10 seconds (not 5
seconds as indicated in the manual), and then the scrolling
continues.
The 00787 also monitors
and displays the indoor temperature and relative humidity and, as
measured and reported by the included 00911 wireless sensor, the
temperature at an outdoor or other remote location. Trend arrows are
displayed with all temperature readings and the indoor humidity reading.
Indoor humidity is displayed in %, and temperatures can be displayed
in either °F or °C, as selected by a pushbutton on the side of the
case. The 00787 has a total of seven control pushbuttons, six on the right
side of the case and one on the back. There's also a SNOOZE/LIGHT bar on
the top.
The integral memory in the 00787 records
maximum and minimum indoor temperature and humidity values plus maximum
and minimum outdoor temperature and humidity values for all remotes in use These
are available for display at the push of the MIN/MAX button and remain
displayed for about 5 seconds. Minimum and
maximum temperatures and humidity are stored and updated until the memory
is reset. To reset the memory, you press CLEAR with maximum values
displayed and then again with minimum values displayed.
The 00787 forecast station uses the Acu-Rite
00911 remote sensor, which has its own temperature and humidity display
for local viewing. One 00911 is included, and the 00787
actually works with up to three 00911s. Additional remote sensors are sold separately. The
00911 should be mounted in a sheltered location where direct precipitation cannot fall
on it. Maximum transmission range of the 00911 is 100 feet (30 meters)
in open space. Although this remote is splash-resistant, it is not
waterproof. If multiple remotes are used, you can press the CH (channel)
button to select the desired remote or to select an auto-scroll channel
display.
Indoor temperature measuring range of the
00787 is +32°F to +122°F (0°C to +50°C). Outdoor/remote temperature
measuring range is -4°F to +122°F (-20°C to +50°C). If the 00911
remote will be used in
sub-freezing temperatures, lithium AA batteries are recommended instead of
alkaline. The display may fade, but the remote will continue measuring and
sending temperature and humidity data. When the temperature warms back up,
the display will return.
The clock in the 00787 is an atomic
(radio controlled) clock that sets itself automatically and adjusts
automatically for daylight saving time. This clock keeps perfect
time by calibrating itself to 60kHz low-frequency AM radio signals
containing time information supplied by the official U.S. atomic clock
source in Boulder, Colorado. The signals are transmitted from radio
station WWVB located in nearby Fort Collins. Both the atomic clock
source and WWVB are operated by the National Institute of Standards and
Technology, or NIST (a part of the U.S. Commerce Department).
Successful reception of
the time-synchronization radio signal is indicated by a radio tower and
waves icon just above seconds in the top line of the display. After
synchronization occurs, you then select your continental U.S. time zone
(EST, CST, MST, or PST). If you live in an area that does not observe
daylight saving time (Arizona and parts of Indiana), you can manually
disable the automatic DST changes.
Time on the 00787 can
be displayed in 12-hour mode with PM when appropriate, or in 24-hour
mode. The clock has
two daily alarms, each of which sounds with a 2-minute crescendo pattern.
Pressing the SNOOZE/LIGHT
when an alarm is sounding turns off the alarm for a
5-minute snooze period.
Pressing the SNOOZE/LIGHT bar at any time lights the green LED backlight
for the LCD panel.
Calendar and moon phase
information is pre-programmed from year 2000 through 2099 (default is
2002). The year is displayed only during manual setup, which is
optional. Month and date are displayed digitally, and the weekday is
indicated by a box around the day abbreviation. If
you do set the clock manually, you'll need to set the time, year, month,
and date. The weekday and moon phase update automatically.
The 00787 main unit is powered by two AA (1.5V) alkaline
batteries, and the 00911 remote is powered by two AAA (1.5V) alkaline
batteries. These are not included and must be obtained separately.
Expected battery life is 1 year. If the 00911 remote will be used in
sub-freezing temperatures, lithium AA batteries are recommended instead of
alkaline. The display may fade, but the remote will continue measuring and
sending temperature and humidity data. When the temperature warms back
up, the display will return.
The 00787 main unit is designed for
free-standing use only (even though its stand is removable). The 00911
remote comes with its own snap-on mounting bracket. This bracket has a
keyhole slot for wall mounting and an integral fold-out stand for
free-standing use. Acu-Rite even includes a screw on which to hang the
00911.
If you're looking for a fairly small wireless
weather forecast station with lots of features, the Acu-Rite 00787 may fit
your needs perfectly. Its forecast and moon phase display are animated.
And not only can it display temperatures in °F or °C, it
also has a min/max memory for indoor and all outdoor/remote temperatures
and humidity. Plus, its incredibly accurate atomic clock has dual alarms and
snooze. The 00787 is ideal for home or office. Use it to monitor the
temperature and humidity in your baby's room, wine cellar, greenhouse, garage,
basement, crawl space, or wherever. This product comes with a
1-year factory warranty.

Note:
This product has "atomic" clock functionality. Atomic, or Radio Controlled clocks receive
a radio signal to set themselves. Like any radio receiver however, they may not
be able to receive the signal if they are in a building with a lot of steel in
the structure, near computers or other electrical equipment that may generate
interference, or if the weather is unsuitable. The signal they receive does not
propagate well during the day. That's the nature of the signal, not the clock.
These clocks are designed to catch the signal when they can, generally in the
middle of the night, calibrate themselves, and then run quite accurately for
days until they can catch another signal. When you first put in the batteries,
they will most likely not set themselves until the middle of the night. That's
normal. By morning, weather permitting, it should be correct. Under less than
ideal conditions, it could take a few days. Daylight savings time changes may
not be made the first night if location and weather are not favorable.
