Acu-Rite 00683A3 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Min/Max Memory and Programmable Temperature Alerts

The Acu-Rite 00683A3 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer with Min/Max Memory and Programmable Temperature Alerts is a very compact unit that simultaneously displays both the indoor temperature and, as received from the included 00955 remote sensor, the outdoor temperature. Maximum transmission range of the remote sensor is 100 feet, and the main unit can accommodate up to 3 remote sensors. The 00683A3 main unit can be wall-mounted or free-standing. The 00955 is best used as a wall-mounted sensor because its base is slightly rounded, which makes it somewhat unstable on a horizontal surface.

The Acu-Rite 00683A3 Wireless Thermometer is white with a silver-tone bezel around the 2-line display and silver-tone pushbuttons. The LCD panel displays the outdoor temperature in the top line and the indoor temperature in the bottom line, both in digits about 9/16 inch tall (degree tenths are about 5/16 inch). Truly compact in size, the main unit is only 4 inches tall by 2-1/2 inches wide by 1-3/16 inches deep unless you extend the integral folding stand that allows for placement on a shelf, table, or desk.

The 00683A3 Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Thermometer monitors and displays the indoor temperature plus the temperature in up to three outdoor (or other) locations by means of the included 00955 remote sensor and one or two additional remote sensors, which are optional and sold separately. The temperature display on the main unit is pushbutton-selectable for °F or °C. Unlike some digital thermometers, the 00683A3 simultaneously displays the indoor and outdoor temperatures, so you don't have to actively select one or the other for viewing. The outdoor temperature display can be optioned to scroll, in which case the temperature from each remote sensor in use is displayed for 5 seconds.

The 00683A3 thermometer records the minimum and maximum indoor and outdoor/remote temperatures it has measured, and these can be displayed at the push of a button. In addition, both high and low temperature alerts can be programmed for both the indoor temperature and any or all of the remote-channel temperatures. When a temperature reaches the preset alerting point, that temperature display flashes and an audible alarm sounds. You can push any button to silence the alarm, but the temperature will continue to flash until it changes from the upper or lower limit temperature.

The 00955 remote temperature sensor that comes with the 00683A2 Wireless Thermometer is white with silver trim to match the main unit. This non-displaying sensor can be wall-mounted via a keyhole slot on its back. If you need one or two additional remotes, these can be either the 00955 or the Acu-Rite 00739. The 00739 has both a temperature display and a detachable, submersible probe on a 10-foot wire. Use the sensor without the probe to monitor indoor or outdoor air temperature, or attach the probe and use the sensor to monitor the temperature in a pool, spa, aquarium, or pond, or in soil.

Integral random security code technology is another feature of this wireless thermometer. The main unit learns the random code of the remote sensor and logs it in as Channel 1. Channels 2 and 3 register in the same way if additional sensors are purchased and used. The 00955 and 00739 remote sensors can transmit up to 100 feet (30 meters) without outside interference, i.e., in an open area.

Unlike the 00739 remote, the 00955 has no channel switch. If you are using multiple 00955s, you power up the main unit first. You then power up and initiate transmission from the 00955 you want to be Channel 1. You next do this for the Channel 2 00955 and finally for the Channel 3 00955 (if used). If you are using mixed 00739 and and 00955 remotes, you'll need to set the channel switches on the 00739s before powering them up and initiating transmission in the desired channel order.

Operating (indoor) temperature range of the main unit is 32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C). Operating temperature range of the included 00955 remote sensor is -4°F to +122°F (-20°C to +50°C) when equipped with alkaline batteries. Operating temperature range of the optional 00739 remote sensor is 0°F to 122°F (-17°C to +50°C) when equipped with alkaline batteries and used without its probe. With the probe attached, the 00739's operating range is -58°F to +158°F (-50° to +70°C). If temperatures are expected to remain significantly below freezing for an extended time, we recommend using lithium batteries in the remotes instead of alkaline.

As mentioned above, the main unit can be wall-mounted or free-standing, while the 00955 remote is better suited to wall mounting. Wall-mounting anchors and screws are included for both units. The remote has a water-resistant (splashproof) case, but for proper operation you must mount the remote where direct rainfall and sunlight cannot fall on it (and it says this on the package)..

Batteries are not included with this product. You'll need two AA (1.5V) alkaline cells for the main unit and 2 AAA (1.5V) alkaline or lithium cells for the included remote sensor. The main unit displays a low-battery indication when its batteries become weak.
