Atomix 00582A1 Camden Atomic Clock with Calendar and Indoor Temperature

Need a totally accurate digital clock with calendar and indoor temperature displays? Check out the Atomix 00582A1 Camden Atomic Clock. This radio controlled clock looks great either hanging on a wall or resting on a table or shelf. The package indicates that the 00582 can be used on a desktop, but at 8 inches square it may be too large for some desks. The hour and minute digits are almost 2 inches tall and quite bold, and seconds are 1 inch tall. The date, day of week, and indoor temperature (all displayed digitally) are 3/4 inch tall, and the month is slightly smaller.

The Atomix 00582A1 Camden Atomic Clock is 8 inches square. The front and sides of the molded case are titanium gray in color with a semi-metallic finish, and the back of the case is light gray. This clock's styling is simple and modern. In its large LCD panel, the Camden displays the time as hour, minutes, and seconds and the date as month, date, and day of week. To the right of the weekday is the indoor temperature. One reason the Camden looks so clean and uncluttered is that all of its control buttons are on the back.

You'll appreciate both the absolute accuracy and the useful features of the Atomix Camden digital clock. Because this clock is atomic, it sets itself automatically and adjusts automatically twice a year for Daylight Saving Time (DST). If you live in a location that does not observe DST (Arizona and parts of Indiana), you can easily disable the DST time change function by pressing a button on the back of the clock. Also, you can disable automatic setting of time and date and set the clock manually if you wish (for example, if you take the clock out of WWVB time signal range). The time can be displayed in 12-hour or 24-hour mode. Time and perpetual calendar information (month, date, and day of week) are displayed automatically after the time-synchronization radio signal is received.

Successful reception of the time-synchronization signal from Colorado is indicated by a radio tower and waves icon just above seconds in the upper section of the display. After synchronization occurs, you can select your continental U.S. time zone (EST, CST, MST, or PST) by means of a button on the back of the clock.

The indoor temperature can be displayed in either °F or °C, and both the temperature unit and the 12-/24-hour time mode can be changed at any time during normal operation simply by pressing buttons on the back of the clock. You don't have to reinitiate clock setup to do this.

The Atomix 00582A1 Camden clock can be mounted on a wall, or you can extend the folding legs and place the clock on a table or shelf. Either way, this clock will look good while providing you with valuable time and temperature information.

Note: The 60kHz AM radio signal used by NIST to deliver the time information carries best at night. The signal may be interfered with by weather conditions and local interference. Building construction and location within the building can also affect reception. This clock is quartz controlled and will keep very good time for days when reception is poor, so this isn't normally a problem. You may find, however, that when you first insert the batteries, or during a Daylight Saving Time change, the clock will not be able to set itself immediately if reception is poor. Signal strength is indicated by the icon above seconds in the time display. You may wish to check the icon when selecting a location for your clock. Because wiring and plumbing in your walls can affect reception, moving the clock as little as a couple of inches can make a difference in the strength of the signal reaching the clock. Note: This product has "atomic" clock functionality. Atomic, or Radio Controlled clocks receive a radio signal to set themselves. Like any radio receiver however, they may not be able to receive the signal if they are in a building with a lot of steel in the structure, near computers or other electrical equipment that may generate interference, or if the weather is unsuitable. The signal they receive does not propagate well during the day. That's the nature of the signal, not the clock. These clocks are designed to catch the signal when they can, generally in the middle of the night, calibrate themselves, and then run quite accurately for days until they can catch another signal. When you first put in the batteries, they will most likely not set themselves until the middle of the night. That's normal. By morning, weather permitting, it should be correct. Under less than ideal conditions, it could take a few days. Daylight savings time changes may not be made the first night if location and weather are not favorable.
