Acu-Rite
00754 Wireless Weather Station
with Atomic Clock and Calendar
|
|
|
The
Acu-Rite 00754 Wireless Weather Station displays both
the indoor temperature and, as received from the included remote sensor,
the outdoor temperature with a trend arrow. Maximum range of the remote
sensor is 100 feet, and the main unit can accommodate up to 3 sensors.
In addition, the 00754 also includes an incredibly accurate
radio-controlled ("atomic") clock with daily alarm, snooze
function, and calendar display. The station's 4-line LCD display has a
backlight for low-light viewing. The main unit can be mounted on a wall
or placed on a shelf, table, or desk.

The Acu-Rite
00754 Wireless Weather and Atomic Clock Station is dark blue and
silver in color. Its backlit 4-line LCD display indicates the indoor
temperature and, in bigger numbers, the outdoor temperature with a trend
arrow. Above the temperatures are displayed the current time plus the
month, date, and weekday and a time-signal reception icon. Fairly
compact in size, the main unit is 5-5/8 inches tall by 3-5/8 inches wide
by 1-1/8 inches deep unless you extend the integral folding stand that
allows for placement on a shelf, table, or desk. |
|
|
The 00754 weather
station monitors and displays the temperature both indoors
and in up to 3 remote/outdoor locations by means of the
included remote sensor and 1 or 2 additional remote
sensors, which are optional and sold separately.
Temperatures can be displayed in either °F or °C
(pushbutton-selectable). A temperature trend arrow is
displayed with each remote-channel temperature, and a
snowflake icon appears if the temperature is 32°F (0°C)
or below.
The weather
station records minimum and maximum indoor and
outdoor/remote temperatures for each 24-hour period, and
these can be displayed at the push of a button. The
temperature memory automatically clears every night at
midnight.
One remote
temperature sensor is included with the 00754, and the station accepts up to three. Additional
sensors are sold separately as model number 00739. The
remote that comes with the 00754 does not have a display
or a probe, but any additional 00739s you purchase have
their own LCD temperature display for local viewing (selectable for °F or °C),
and they also include
a detachable, submersible probe on a 10-foot wire. Use an
00739 without the probe attached to monitor indoor or outdoor air
temperature, or attach the probe and use the sensor to
monitor the temperature in a pool, spa, aquarium, or pond,
or in soil. Both the included remote and the 00739 have a
water-resistant case and can be wall-mounted via a
detachable bracket or placed on a flat surface.
The remote
sensor included with the 00754 and the optional 00739
remote can each transmit up to 100 feet (30 meters)
without outside interference, i.e., in an open area. The
00754 station has a user-selectable auto-scroll feature by
which each active remote sensor's temperature reading is
displayed for 5 seconds.
The 00754
weather station features an incredibly accurate
radio-controlled clock with month, date, and weekday
calendar display and a daily alarm with an available
10-minute snooze function. A SNOOZE/LIGHT button on
the station's right side lights the display's backlight
and, after the alarm has initially gone off, also provides
the 10-minute snooze alarm.
Radio-controlled
clocks such as that in the 00754 keep perfect time by
calibrating themselves to 60kHz low-frequency AM radio
signals containing time information supplied by the
official U.S. atomic clock source in Boulder, Colorado.
The radio signals are transmitted from radio station WWVB,
which is located in nearby Fort Collins. Both the atomic
clock source and WWVB are operated by the National
Institute of Standards and Technology, or NIST (a part of
the U.S. Commerce Department).
A search for
the time signal begins automatically after you insert the
batteries first in the main unit and then in the remote
and the remote registers with the main unit.
Synchronization with the time signal normally takes place
within 24 hours, at which time OK appears next to the
tower icon. You can then push a button to select your
correct mainland U.S. time zone (Pacific, Mountain,
Central, or Eastern). The letter P, M, C, or E appears
next to the time-signal reception icon (a radio tower and
signal waves) to indicate your selection.
The station's
atomic clock is factory-optioned to adjust twice a year
for Daylight Saving Time, but if you live in a location
(Indiana or Arizona) where DST is not observed, you can
easily disable the DST changes by pressing a button. The
station's calendar display will automatically display the
correct day and date through the year 2050.
If you take
the station out of range of the U.S. atomic clock time signal, you can set the time and date manually. If you
are within range of the time signal and wish to manually
initiate a signal search, this can be done via pushbutton.
During a signal search, if only the tower base is
flashing, the station is in a weak reception area. If both
the tower base and signal waves are flashing, reception is
better.
Operating
temperature range of the station main unit is 32° to 122°F
(0° to 50°C). Operating temperature range of the remote
sensors is -58° to +158°F (-50° to +70°C).
When outdoor
temperatures reach -12°F (-24°C), the manufacturer
recommends that you bring any optional 00739 remote sensors indoors and
attach their probes to monitor outdoor temperatures by
placing the probes out a window. Really cold weather can
cause a remote sensor's LCD display and alkaline batteries to
freeze and malfunction (this is true of any brand of
remote sensor).
Batteries are
not included with this weather station and must be
obtained separately. The main unit uses 2 AA (1.5V)
alkaline cells, and the remote sensor uses 2 AAA (1.5V)
alkaline cells. If a remote will be used in sub-freezing
temperatures for an extended time period, AAA lithium
batteries are recommended instead of alkaline. Lithium
batteries retain their power down to about -40°F
(-40°C). The main unit
displays a low-battery indication when its batteries
become weak.
If you're
looking for a medium-small weather station with multiple
remote capability and an clock that's totally accurate
(with daily snooze alarm and calendar display), the Acu-Rite
00754 is a great choice. Neither
too large nor too small, the 00754 Wireless Weather and
Atomic Clock Station is perfect for any room in the
house--or your office. It comes with a 1-year factory
warranty.
