Acu-Rite
03166
Wireless BBQ Thermometer/Timer
|
|
Different types, sizes, and
weights of food often make it difficult to determine the correct
temperature and length of cooking time. But now the Acu-Rite 03166
BBQ Wireless Thermometer with Remote Pager not only makes this task
easy but also tells you when your food is done, even when you're away
from the grill tending to the needs of your guests or family. Simply insert the metal probe into the food, select the
temperature to which you want your food cooked or the time you want it
to cook, and set the alarm on both the main unit and remote pager. Then
clip the pager to your belt or waistband. When the alarm sounds on both
the main unit and the pager, your food is done. The temperature settings
listed on the back of the main unit follow USDA internal temperature recommendations for
lamb, poultry, veal, ground beef, beef, and pork. The main unit of this
BBQ thermometer features a folding display panel for easy viewing.

The Acu-Rite
03166 Wireless BBQ Thermometer with remote pager lets you safely and instantly read the
internal temperature of cooking food on the main unit's
easy-view folding display panel. When your
food reaches the temperature you set for it or when the time you
set expires, alarms sound on both the main unit and the remote
pager to let you know. This thermometer is
designed for use not only in ovens but also in barbeque grills,
deep fryers, and smokers.

What
could be easier? Insert the
03166 thermometer's probe
into your food. Place the main unit on a cool surface outside of
the oven, grill, deep fryer, or smoker. Set the main unit's power ON/OFF
switch to ON, and set the temperature to which your food is to be
cooked. The USDA-recommended internal temperatures for cooked
meats and poultry are indicated on the back page of the
instruction manual.
Then set the main unit's ALARM ON/OFF switch to ON to turn its alarm on.
The remote pager has power ON/OFF and
ALARM ON/OFF switches like the main unit, and these must both be set to
ON to use the pager. When the preset cooking temperature is reached,
both the main unit and remote pager beep to inform you. The
03166 BBQ thermometer has a wide temperature measurement
range of +32°F to +392°F (0°C to +200°C). During setup, you
can option the main unit to display the temperature of your cooking food and
the set (target) temperature in °F or °C. In
addition to its temperature alarm, the main unit also has
an integral clock with an available countdown timer mode. The clock can be
optioned to display the time in 12-hour or 24-hour mode, and the 24-hour
countdown timer (hh:mm) has its own alarm. You can
use this instead of the temperature alarm, or you can use both
alarms simultaneously, which can serve as a double-check in some
cooking situations. (You use the same switch to turn the alarm
on regardless of whether you use the temperature alarm, the timer, or
both.) For
example, let's say you have a beef rib roast that you wish to
cook medium rare. Your cookbook says to roast it a specific
number of minutes per pound at a specified temperature.
Naturally, you calculate the expected length of cooking time
based on the roast's weight. Then, using the Acu-Rite 03166 BBQ thermometer/timer, you set its countdown timer for that length
of time. In addition, you set the temperature alarm for 145°F
(63°C), which is the USDA-recommended internal temperature for
medium rare beef. Theoretically, the two alarms should sound
almost simultaneously. But this is real life, and, careful cook
that you are, you check the roast when the first alarm sounds.
It's the temperature sensor, but the countdown timer still has a
few minutes to go. You remove the roast from the oven, knowing
its internal temperature is correct for medium rare and that it
won't be overcooked by remaining in the oven too long. Like
the main unit, the 03166's remote pager has a clock and 24-hour
countdown timer. The pager's clock displays the time in 12-hour mode
only. The pager (along with the main unit) sounds when the cooking food
reaches its set target temperature. Also, because the pager's own countdown timer is not synchronized with
the main unit's countdown timer, the alarm on
the remote pager will sound when the main unit's timer expires OR
when the pager's timer expires The pager will also sound its alarm and
display a visible alert if
the pager is taken out of the 100 foot (30 meter) transmission range of the
main unit. The 03166 features
a heat-resistant stainless steel probe on a 3-foot high-temperature
(700°F/371°C) stainless steel wire. Please be aware
that this thermometer's probe and wire are designed for use in conventional ovens, barbeque
grills, deep fryers, and smokers--but NOT in
microwave ovens. And although the probe and wire can
tolerate high temperatures, don't let them come into direct contact with
flames because possible damage can occur. The
large 3-line display on the main unit shows, from top to bottom, the
temperature of your cooking food (COOK), the setting at which the
temperature alarm will sound if on (SET), and either the countdown timer
(TIMER) or the actual time (CLOCK) setting. The 1-line display on the
remote pager shows either the countdown timer or clock time setting. Both
the 03166 main unit and remote pager have semi-metallic titanium gray
molded cases with
silver-tone control pushbuttons and switches. The rounded trim/bezel
areas that surround the LCD panels on the main unit and the remote
pager are also
silver in color. The main unit and pager each require 2 AAA (1.5V) batteries (not
included, alkaline recommended) and have
POWER ON/OFF switches to maximize battery life.
